Former Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic made his debut for new club Manchester United on Wednesday after being picked in Jose Mourinho's starting XI to face Sampdoria.

Matic completed a £40million move from Chelsea to United earlier this week after finding his first-team opportunities with the Premier League champions come under threat from the big-money arrival of Tiemoue Bakayoko from Monaco.

After signing a three-year deal at United to re-unite with Jose Mourinho, the manager who he worked with at Chelsea, Matic underwent his first training session with the Red Devils on Tuesday.

He was then included in Mourinho's squad for United's pre-season game against Sampdoria in Dublin, and was subsequently named in the Portuguese's starting line-up for the match on Wednesday evening.

The midfielder started the friendly alongside Paul Pogba, with Mourinho also naming Romelu Lukaku in a strong line-up, and lasted 47 minutes on his first outing for United.
