New Tottenham stadium: Green light for White Hart Lane redevelopment as council grants formal approval

Tottenham's stadium plans have received a further green light this afternoon after the club confirmed that Haringey Council has given permission for the scheme to go ahead.

A club statement read: "The club can confirm that the Secretary of State has written to the London Borough of Haringey stating that he does not propose to call in the planning application for the Northumberland Development Project and Haringey Council has today granted permission for the scheme.

"We shall now work with Haringey Council in respect of finalising planning processes, public sector support for the surrounding environs and transport improvements that are essential to the deliverability of the scheme."

Spurs were granted planning permission in December for the 61,000-seat venue, which will be constructed a stone’s throw from their current White Hart Lane base.

The club hope to move into their new home ahead of the start of the 2018/19 season and added in a statement: "We are delighted that the scheme continues to progress and shall keep fans updated."

Building work on the new site has already begun and Tottenham must find a temporary stadium to stage their home games in during the latter stages of construction.

Tottenham have identified Wembley and Stadium MK as potential destinations and confirmed in February that the FA were “positively engaged” in talks with the club.
