Chelsea FC: Pedro to wear No.11 shirt next season after Alexandre Pato departs club

1/24

Chelsea have confirmed that Pedro will switch from the No.17 shirt to the No.11 jersey next season following the departure of Alexandre Pato.

The Blues announced on Sunday that Pedro, who has been away at the European Championships with his nation Spain, will change shirt numbers and take up Pato's No.11 jersey following the Brazilian's return to his parent club Corinthians.

With some fans likely to have already bought a Chelsea shirt with Pedro's name and former number 17, which he wore in his debut campaign at Stamford Bridge last term, on it, the club have promised to offer supporters free exchanges if they bought the 2016/17 shirt from Chelsea's official shop.

Pedro endured a difficult time with his nation Spain at Euro 2016 in France as the former Barcelona star was used mainly as a substitute by Vicente del Bosque.

After also having a tricky first season at Chelsea, the winger revealed last month he had spoken with Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu about potentially returning to the Camp Nou this summer, but then admitted such a move would prove "almost impossible".

He will now stay at Chelsea and be expected to help the Blues fight for a Champions League spot and also silverware under incoming manager Antonio Conte - who managed Italy to victory over Spain in the last 16 stage.
