Pep Guardiola insists it is “crazy” for Manchester City to think about the title.

The Premier League champions moved to within eight points of leaders Liverpool, who face Everton in the Merseyside derby on Wednesday.

But despite producing one of their best performances of the season to beat Burnley 4-1 at Turf Moor – Guardiola refused to be drawn on his chances of catching Jurgen Klopp’s side.

"Like everyone [says] we are out, we have no chance," he said. "We are thinking ourselves and the next game.

4 Chelsea 14 8 2 4 8 26

"To think how many ways to win to be close is a stupid way to think. Start of December, crazy game. Game by game.

"Our team is stable and that ’s what we want. For the distance we have with Liverpool it would be crazy to think about the title.

"We have to think about the derby, the other competitions, and take this rhythm.

"Last year we played 10 games more than Liverpool so they are in debit. It is what it is. It’s a crazy month, but we are going to try."

City face Manchester United on Saturday, with Guardiola insisting that’s where his focus is.

"We need our fans for next Saturday. We have four days. Tomorrow we watch the game against Tottenham and see the way we can do it. To play these games is the reason why we are here."
