Arsenal star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang ended months of speculation over his future by penning a new three-year contract at the club on Tuesday.

The Gabon star teased the announcement on his Twitter page, as did the official club account, before confirming football’s worst-kept secret in an Instagram Live that featured strike partner Alexandre Lacazette and Gunners legend Ian Wright.

The 31-year-old has penned a three-year deal which should keep him at the Emirates for the remaining prime years of his career and the club have released pictures of him putting pen to paper.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta hailed the announcement and backed his captain to prove himself among the world’s best over the coming seasons.

“It was important for Pierre-Emerick to stay with us,” Arteta said. “He’s a superb player with an incredible mentality. Being the player to have taken the least amount of time to reach 50 goals with this club tells you everything you need to know about him and his way of working.

"He’s an important leader for the team and a big part of what we’re building. He wants to be up there with the best players in the world and leave his mark. He can achieve that here.”
