Santi Cazorla understands Arsenal fans' frustration as the club faces yet another early Champions League exit.

A 5-1 first-leg humbling at the hands of Bayern Munich leaves the Gunners needing a miracle to avoid a seventh consecutive exit at the last-16 stage.

Cazorla remains sidelined with the Achilles injured suffered in October and is now not expected to return to first-team action before next season, so could only watch from home as Thiago Alcantara inspired the German giants to a thumping win.

The heavy loss mounted further pressure on Arsene Wenger amid speculation over a possible contract extension, and Cazorla can sympathise with the supporters' ire over the level of performance on show at the Allianz Arena.

"With good reason," Cazorla told Onda Cero after being reminded of the fans' disappointment.

"We had a lot of hopes for the Champions League and now it’s tougher to stay in. But it was all in the second half, in the first it was good.

"We had good possession, then Bayern scored and we had a few opportunities in the first half but that second half was bad. Bayern scored four goals so it's normal for fans to be mad.

"First, we are annoyed with ourselves and of course the fans [are right to have] expected more from their team."
