The centre-half was hurt during the 2-1 defeat by Chelsea at the London Stadium on Monday.

Boss Slaven Bilic said: “Fonte felt something and is a bit of a doubt but we are optimistic he will be fit.”

Striker Andy Carroll and midfielder Robert Snodgrass both suffered cuts against Chelsea but can play at the Vitality Stadium while Michail Antonio has completed his one-match ban.

Bournemouth will be missing Tyrone Mings as he starts a five‑match suspension for stamping on Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Bilic said: “There is maybe a 20 per cent chance that it wasn’t deliberate and that he didn’t see him - but it looked dangerous.”

West Ham have been linked with a summer move for St Etienne full‑back Kevin Malcuit.

However, Bilic said: “I don’t want to discuss the names. We have been preparing since December for next season but right now we are only concentrating on Bournemouth.”
