The President of Kenya has congratulated Victor Wanyama for joining Tottenham from fellow Premier League club Southampton.

The 24-year-old ended his spell on the South Coast and signed a five-year deal at White Hart Lane to become Mauricio Pochettino's first signing of the summer earlier this week.

Wanyama has made no secret of his ambition to win the Premier League title with Spurs, who are also set to play in the Champions League for the second time in their history next season.

And Wanyama, who was named Kenya captain in 2013, has now received support from President Uhuru Kenyatta after deciding to swap St. Mary's for north London.

Wanyama is the first Kenyan to ever play in the Premier League and has vowed to keep the nation's flag "flying high" during the next chapter of his career.

The midfielder made his international debut at the tender age of 15 and has more than 40 senior caps to his name.

Spurs boss Pochettino worked with Wanyama at Southampton and the midfielder's arrival will bolster the Argentine manager's options in the centre of the park.

Eric Dier made the holding midfield role his own last season but now faces stiff competition from both Wanyama and Mousa Dembele for regular game time.
