Paris Saint-Germain are set to appoint Fabio Capello as manager after Andre Villas-Boas decided to remain at Tottenham.

The French champions were keen on luring Villas-Boas to the Parc des Princes and were willing to pay £10million to Spurs as compensation. But the Portuguese is thought to have rejected PSG’s overtures out of loyalty to chairman Daniel Levy, who handed him a chance to rebuild his reputation in English football.

Villas-Boas, 35, is also thought to have been wary of PSG’s desire to land Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger when his deal at Emirates Stadium expires next summer.

However, there is no guarantee that Wenger will take up the offer and Capello is seemingly unperturbed by any suggestion his spell in charge could be a short one regardless of what he achieves.

Former England manager Capello is currently in charge of Russia’s national team but is believed to be close to an agreement with PSG, who will then allow current boss Carlo Ancelotti to join Real Madrid as Jose Mourinho’s successor.

Meanwhile, Tottenham today officially announced the appointment of former England assistant manager Franco Baldini as the club’s technical director.
