John Eustace is set to remain in charge of QPR for Wednesday’s match against Millwall as they seek a permanent successor to Steve McClaren.

Rangers’ shortlist of candidates is thought to feature former Tottenham interim boss Tim Sherwood, along with Wycombe’s Gareth Ainsworth, Lee Bowyer of Charlton, ex-Portsmouth and Blackburn manager Michael Appleton and Rui Almeida, who is in charge of French second division club Troyes.

Yet Standard Sport understands that Rangers are unlikely to conclude negotiations before the derby clash at The Den.

Eustace was placed in caretaker charge after McClaren was sacked but could do nothing to revive Rangers as they were beaten 4-0 at leaders Norwich on Saturday.

The loss means QPR have won just one of their past 16 Championship games and they could still be dragged into a relegation battle with six matches to go.

QPR are 18th in the table, five points clear of the relegation places and just four ahead of Millwall.

Rangers were pushing for the play-offs earlier in the season despite a poor start under McClaren, but that form has deserted them and they have won only once in the league in 2019.
