Raheem Sterling could face a ban after appearing to throw an object back into the Tottenham crowd during Chelsea’s 4-1 win on Monday night.

The Football Association (FA) are investigating footage released on Chelsea’s own TikTok account, which showed an object striking Cole Palmer in the leg after he equalised through a penalty.

As the players moved away to restart the match, Sterling appeared to bend down to pick up and throw the item back into the crowd before joining his team-mates.

The incident was not spotted by officials but is now being reviewed to determine whether any action needs to be taken.

Tottenham forward Richarlison was previously banned for one match for throwing a lit flare back into the crowd after scoring for his previous club Everton against Chelsea in May 2022.

Didier Drogba was also banned for three matches in 2008 after throwing a coin at Burnley supporters following a Carabao Cup loss.

Sterling excelled during Chelsea’s win and set up the crucial second goal, which broke down a stubborn nine-man Spurs defence.

Both Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie were sent off in an ill-tempered derby in which Nicolas Jackson scored a hat-trick.

Chelsea next face Sterling's former club Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday, but any sanction would more likely come after the international break.

The Blues travel to face Newcastle at St James' Park on November 25, before facing Brighton at home and another away trip to Manchester United.
