Raheem Sterling has bid an emotional farewell to Manchester City supporters as the England forward prepares to join Chelsea.

The 27-year-old will become the first major men’s first-team signing of the club’s new era following the takeover from the consortium led by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital and has jetted out to America to join their pre-season tour.

Sterling joined City seven years ago after leaving Liverpool and has since won four Premier League titles, four League Cups and the FA Cup during a trophy-laden spell at the Etihad Stadium.

“Seven seasons. Eleven major trophies. A lifetime of memories, “ wrote Sterling on Twitter.

“To the coaching staff who played a massive in my development over the years. To my teammates who have become more than just those I share a pitch with. To the backroom staff. To the office staff.

“To the fans who have tirelessly supporters team. And to everything involved with Mancheste City. My respect for you couldn’t be greater.

“What a ride it’s been.

“I am thankful for the ups and downs. As it’s the same that have, at times, tested my strength and resolve and enabled me to stand here in front of you as the best possible version of myself.

“I arrived in Manchester a 20-year-old. Today, I leave as a man.

“Thank you for your endless support. It’s been an honour to wear the shirt of Manchester City.”
