Real Madrid fear that Chelsea are their main rivals in the race to sign Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus.

The Germany midfielder is set to leave Dortmund in the summer having refused to extend his deal.

He has a release clause of £19.7million in his contract and Madrid hope to trigger it. Although Bayern Munich are also in the hunt, Madrid officials believe that Chelsea have already made contract with the 25-year-old’s agent Volker Struth to flag up their interest.

Chelsea could use Dortmund’s desire to buy Andre Schurrle to seal a deal. As reported by Standard Sport earlier this week, the Bundesliga side have been considering a move for the Germany international as they seek to line-up a replacement for Reus.

However, Madrid are convinced they secured first refusal on Reus when Nuri Sahin rejoined Dortmund in the summer.
