Real Madrid striker Cristiano Ronaldo has splashed out £12m on a New York apartment which inspired the erotic book “50 Shades of Grey."

The 30 year-old forward snapped up the 2,000 square foot property on Fifth Avenue's Trump tower amid rumours that he could move to the US later in his career.

The New York Post reports that the plush apartment was used as a model by author EL James for the bachelor pad which was home to the book's bondage-loving protoganist Christian Grey.
