Roma condemn fan actions following Liverpool attack after two arrested on suspicion of attempted murder

Roma have condemned the actions of a group of their fans which resulted in one 53-year-old Liverpool fan being rushed to hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Two men from Rome have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following violent scenes on Merseyside ahead of the game at Anfield on Tuesday night.

Reports on social media claimed that a group of around 20 Roma fans had attacked a Liverpool fan with belts outside the Albert Pub.

Both Liverpool and Uefa have condemned the attack, while the latter are waiting on reports ‘before deciding on potential disciplinary charges.’

The Italian side have now also condemned the actions and passed their thoughts onto the victim and his family.

A club statement read: "AS Roma condemns in the strongest possible terms the abhorrent behaviour of a small minority of travelling fans who brought shame on the club and the vast majority of Roma's well-behaved supporters at Anfield after getting involved in clashes with Liverpool supporters before last night's fixture.

"There is no place for this type of vile behavior in football and the club is now co-operating with Liverpool Football Club, UEFA and the authorities.
