Romelu Lukaku scores on Inter Milan debut: Former Man Utd striker hits the ground running in Serie A

The last thing Manchester United fans needed this Bank Holiday weekend were any reminders of potential transfer blunders - so step forward Romelu Lukaku.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sold Lukaku to Inter Milan on transfer deadline day without replacing the Belgian, instead backing Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford to find the goals United need this season.

The pair have got two apiece so far this season, but United's form has already tapered off following their 4-0 opening-day win over Chelsea. The Red Devils then went on to draw 1-1 away at Wolves - a creditable result taken in isolation - but followed that up with a shock 2-1 home defeat to Crystal Palace.

Rashford - back on penalty duties against Palace after Paul Pogba missed his at Wolves - duly sent a spot-kick against the post versus the Eagles as United dominated possession but struggled to turn that control into clear-cut chances.

With Martial also picking up an injury problem in that defeat, and with Alexis Sanchez potentially following Lukaku to Milan, the Red Devils now look light in attack.

While Solskjaer may not necessarily rue selling Lukaku - particularly after the forward revealed sensitive training data about himself and the rest of the United squad on Twitter - the decision not to sign a replacement could ome back to haunt both him and Ed Woodward.

And Lukaku sent United a reminder of what they are missing as he scored on his Inter debut, with former Chelsea coach Antonio Conte making his debit in the Nerazzurri dugout.

Inter thrashed newly-promoted Lecce in Serie A on Monday evening, with Lukaku opening his account with the third goal of the night by snapping up a rebound after Lautaro Martinez's effort was parried by Gabriel on the hour.
