Queens Park Rangers forward Hogan Ephraim is in line for a reunion with Ryan Nelsen as he closes in on a loan move to Toronto FC.

Nelsen left Loftus Road last month to take over as coach of Toronto and the club’s president, Kevin Payne, has listed Ephraim as one of several players he wants for the 2013 Major League Soccer season, which kicks off this weekend.

“Hopefully, we’re in the final stages of signing him to a loan agreement,” said Payne. “We hope that will be concluded in the next day or two.”

Ephraim joined Rangers from West Ham in 2008 and played regularly during their Championship-winning season of 2010-11 under Neil Warnock.

However, the 24-year-old has since been on the fringes of the first-team squad and spent part of last season on loan at both Charlton and Bristol City.

Tottenham midfielder John Bostock, who was at Swindon for the first half of this season, and Cardiff forward Robert Earnshaw are also said to be close to joining the Canadian franchise on temporary deals.

“All of these players would initially be on loan because we want to be able to have an opportunity to see them in our league before we make long-term commitments,” added Payne.

Toronto suffered a blow when captain Torsten Frings, who played 79 times for Germany, retired yesterday due to a hip problem.
