Sadio Mane was thought that his teammates did not want to pass him the ball during his time at Southampton, Victor Wanyama has revealed.

Mane signed for Saints in the summer of 2014 and scored 25 goals in 75 appearances across two seasons, earning his big move to Liverpool, where he has gone on to establish himself as one of the best players in the world.

Wanyama was one of his teammates on the south coast before leaving at the same time to join former Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham.

And the Kenyan has revealed Mane’s fear that clubmates did not want him to score.

“We were like a family under one father [Mauricio] Pochettino, but I and Mane forged a bigger brotherhood bond. [Morgan] Schneiderlin was also a great friend,” Wanyama told Madgoat TV.

“At one point, Mane approached me and told me 'Hi man, these guys do not want to pass the ball to me, can the two of us play closely? They don't want me to score.'

"I reluctantly agreed and anytime I got the ball I would pass it to him though.

“I wanted to treat him right since he is a good and nice guy.”
