Slavisa Jokanovic ignoring speculation over Fulham job but accepts questions must be asked

Slavisa Jokanovic says cannot afford to think about his future at Fulham but understands his continued employment is based on results.

Fulham owner Shahid Khan was watching from the stands on Saturday as Jokanovic’s side fell to a 3-0 humbling at the hands of high flying Bournemouth.

Khan was unrelenting in his support for the Serbian in his programme notes, writing that he was “amused, astonished and disappointed” by rumours that his manger could be facing the sack.

Despite the owners backing, after one win in ten Premier League games so far, the pressure is on Jokanovic ahead of a League Cup tie with Manchester City and a potentially season-defining clash with Huddersfield.

The former Watford manager is ignoring questions around his future, even if he does understand why they’re being asked.

“I am living in my present, it is a natural question to come from your side when you are not winning games,” he said.

“This question is normal. Really I am thinking about the next training, what is the best way to help my team and the best way to make another plan for the next game. This is only what I focus around. I cannot think about different things."

On his relationship with Khan, Jokanovic added: “I have a really good relationship with the owner but it is our professional relationship. He expects from my side, like the supporters expect, victories.

“At the end it is natural he cannot be satisfied with our situation like I cannot be or my players or supporters.

“Personally our relationship is fantastic, but he didn’t bring me here because I am a good lad or something, he brought me here to win games and this is my challenge and my work.”
