Stayaway fans missing out on the high life at Rangers

11 April 2012

With QPR top of the Championship and enjoying their best start to a season since 1987, fans at Loftus Road have been spoiled so far this season. But where are they?

Only 14,784 turned out to see Middlesbrough beaten 3-0 in west London on Saturday. Both Crystal Palace and Watford bring in more.

Manager Neil Warnock claims he put around 8,000 on Sheffield United's average gate during his time there but he'll need all his tub-thumping efforts to drag Rangers supporters out of their armchairs.

To be fair, fans will point to a hardcore of around 5,000 who have slipped away since the Italian takeover of Flavio Briatore introduced huge increases in ticket prices. But the Briatore regime is over and top of the table status should help to overcome dwindling attendances.

Hogan Ephraim, scorer of the second goal against Boro, believes the stayaway fans are missing out. He said: "We have some of the best players so why not win the League?"
