Steve Jennings denies guilt in red card betting probe

11 April 2012

Motherwell midfielder Steve Jennings today insisted he was innocent after bookmakers began an investigation into betting patterns over his dismissal against Hearts.

The Association of British Bookmakers acted after a number of bets were placed on there being a red card during Motherwell's 2-1 defeat on Tuesday.

Jennings, having been booked for a foul, was later showed a straight red after complaining to referee Stevie O'Reilly about a rejected penalty claim.

The former Tranmere midfielder said: "I want to make it clear I had no involvement whatsoever in any betting scam. I want to clear my name as quickly as possible."
