Chelsea suffered their seventh Premier League defeat of the season on another miserable night for the Blues.

They started the match encouragingly enough and were the better side in the opening 45 minutes, albeit without threatening Jack Butland's goal on a consistent basis.

Willian appeared to pick up a groin strain on the verge of half-time, but was able to continue into the second, before Arnautovic struck.

Xherdan Shaqiri’s pass found former Blues man Glen Johnson on the right flank who in turn pushed it on to Jonathan Walters. His effort was blocked, but lurking at the far post was Arnautovic.

The 26-year-old leapt up and scissor-kicked the ball past Asmir Begovic from six yards.

Chelsea huffed and puffed to pull themselves level. Pedro, so indifferent since arriving from Barcelona in the summer, showed some of that Camp Nou magic only to see his effort rebound off of Jack Butland’s upright.

Cesc Fabregas and Oscar – left on the bench in favour of Eden Hazard and Pedro – were brought on as Baba Rahman and the Pedro made way, but the Blues couldn’t find their way back into the game.

Chelsea starting XI: Begovic; Azpilicueta, Zouma, Terry, Baba; Ramires, Matic; Willian, Hazard, Pedro; Diego Costa.
