TalkSPORT radio station says it will no longer mention Twitter on air in protest at the social networking site's apparent inaction over abusive messages sent to phone-in host Stan Collymore.

The former Liverpool striker had called on Twitter to take swift action against users who sent him death threats and racist abuse.

A torrent of unsavoury messages came after Collymore suggested Liverpool forward Luis Suarez dived to win a penalty against Aston Villa last weekend.

Talk Sport chief executive Scott Taunton says "we are dismayed at the lack of response and perceived inaction by Twitter. Racist or abusive messages of this nature are illegal and unacceptable."

On the station's website, Taunton said Twitter won't be mentioned during broadcasts "until we are satisfied that Twitter is doing its utmost to prevent abuse of this nature."
