Gareth Bale couldn’t hide his delight after Real Madrid thrashed holders Bayern Munich to reach the Champions League final.

Real ran out 4-0 winners on the night, as both Sergio Ramos and Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice to complete a comprehensive victory.

Bale provided Ronaldo’s first goal as Los Blancos reached their first European Cup final for 12 years, and Bale was full of praise for his side after they successfully exposed Bayern’s frailties.

"It's a fantastic result for us. We've been working hard, got our tactics right, played well and deserved the win," Bale told ITV.

"They always leave space on the counter-attack, which we like because we have quick players. We were able to exploit that.”

After reaching the first European final of his career, the Welshman revealed he quit Tottenham last summer for the chance to play in showpiece matches.

"We are happy to be in the final but still have one game to go. Everybody put in 100 per cent - no matter who it was they put in a performance. This is why I wanted to come to the biggest club in the world: to win trophies in massive games.

"We still haven't won it yet; we have a difficult game in the final whoever it may be. But I'm looking forward to it."
