Tim Cahill’s stunning left-footed volley against the Netherlands was surely the goal of the tournament so far.

There appeared to be little danger for the Dutch when Ryan McGowan crossed to the back post onto Cahill’s weaker foot. A split second later, the ball had cannoned in off the bar, as the former Everton midfielder took aim and caught it as sweet as you like, with shades, ironically, of Dutch pair Marco van Basten and Robin van Persie.

Prompted by the majestic goal, we took a look at the top five goals from the tournament, and whether anything can compete with the Aussie’s wonder strike.
