Davinson Sanchez boos ‘sad’ says Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris: ‘I’ve never seen this in my career’

Spurs skipper unhappy with fan reaction to Sanchez’s difficult display in Bournemouth defeat

Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris has criticised fans for their “sad” treatment of Davinson Sanchez during Saturday’s damaging defeat by Bournemouth.

The Colombian defender was brutally booed by supporters after experiencing a horror cameo during a shock 3-2 home loss to relegation battlers that dealt a major blow to Spurs’ hopes of a top-four finish in the Premier League this season.

Sanchez was sent on to replace the injured Clement Lenglet in the 35th minute of the game against Bournemouth with his side leading 1-0 thanks to Heung-min Son’s early effort, but played a huge role in the Cherries’ first two goals scored by Matias Vina and Dominic Solanke before being replaced himself after less than 25 minutes by Arnaut Danjuma.

Tottenham’s interim head coach Cristian Stellini subsequently expressed his backing for the centre-back and said that his withdrawal in favour of an attacker was purely tactical as they chased the game at 2-1 down.

Stellini pledged to quickly raise Sanchez’s spirits and said he would not hesitate to select the player again in future if needed.

A number of the 26-year-old’s Spurs team-mates have also since come out to offer their public support, with long-time skipper Lloris heavily critical of the fans’ reaction - something he said he’s never seen in football before and never wants to witness again.

"I've never seen this in my career," the Frenchman told beIN Sports. "I feel really bad for Davinson. He's a team-mate, he's a friend and he's been fighting for the club for many, many years now.

"It's just sad. The story is sad for the club, for the fans, for the player. It's something you don't want to see in football."
