Tottenham offer Harry Kane huge new contract ahead of pre-season return

Tottenham have offered Harry Kane a massive new contract which would significantly increase his £200,000-a-week salary, but the striker has no intention of signing a new deal this summer.

Kane has entered the final 12 months of his contract and is a target for perennial Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich, who have already had an opening offer in the region of £60million rejected by Spurs.

As first reported by The Guardian, Kane has no plans to agree to Spurs' offer while the transfer window remains open, likely leaving the club in a state of limbo for the rest of the summer.

The England captain, who turns 30 this month, is open to leaving north London during the window or on a free transfer at the end of next season, but has not ruled out extending his contract with his boyhood club - even if this is currently considered the least likely scenario.

Spurs do not want to sell their vice-captain, who would take the armband full-time should Hugo Lloris leave as expected, and have no interest in negotiating with a Premier League rival. The club would, though, be forced to listen to a huge offer, likely in excess of £100m, from Bayern or another overseas club.

Daniel Levy, the Spurs chairman, still hopes to persuade Kane to extend his deal and is banking on new head coach Ange Postecoglou turning around the club's fortunes after a miserable campaign, culminating in an eighth-place finish and no European football for the first time since 2009-10.

Spurs have since signed Kane's England teammate James Maddison from Leicester and Empoli goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, while they are working on a deal for former Fulham forward Manor Solomon and hope to sign two centre-backs this summer, with negotiations continuing for Wolfsburg's Micky van de Ven.

Postecoglou began pre-season training with a skeleton squad on July 1 and is set to hold talks with Kane when the striker returns to Hotspur Way next week following an extended break after leading England in last month's qualifiers.

The Australian has promised to get the side playing entertaining and attacking football again, although his challenge also includes a cultural re-set after Kane claimed Spurs had lost some of their "values" and "standards" over the last few years.
