Harry Kane remains adamant he scored Tottenham’s winner at Stoke even the goal was awarded to Christian Eriksen.

Kane believed he got the merest of touches to Eriksen’s free-kick to seal a 2-1 win over Stoke, but the Premier League ruled that the Dane’s delivery had flown directly into the net.

Kane has 24 goals in the league this term but is in danger of losing his Golden Boot to Mohamed Salah, who has scored 29 times for Liverpool.

Eriksen joked with his team-mate about it as he walked through the post-match mixed zone but Kane said: "I swear on my daughter’s life that I touched the ball, but there’s nothing I can do.

"If they turn it around, they turn it around. If they take my word, they take my word. It is what it is, the most important thing is that we won the game.

"Our win over Chelsea the previous week was massive to create an eight-point gap to them. We’ve got an important game against Manchester City on Saturday and it is important we finish the season strongly.

"We’re on a good unbeaten run and we have to try to maintain that for the rest of the season."

Kane also believes his short absence through injury may benefit both Tottenham and England.

The 24-year-old damaged ankle ligaments in Spurs’ 4-1 win at Bournemouth last month but missed only three weeks’ action.

He is confident it may be just the breather he needs to finish the season powerfully and make a flying start to the World Cup.

Kane added: "It happened similarly last year and I came back strong and that’s what I’m aiming to do this year and take that into the summer.

"I feel good at the moment and it’s important I stay fit and healthy and try to help the team as much as possible."
