Tottenham have been knocked out of the Champions League following a dramatic 2-1 loss against Group E opponents AS Monaco.

CSKA Moscow had handed Tottenham hope with a 1-1 draw against Bayer Leverkusen ahead of Spurs' clash at Stade Louis II, but Mauricio Pochettino's side slumped to a defeat which means they cannot qualify for the knockout stages of the competition.

Hugo Lloris saved a first-half penalty from Radamel Falcao, but Monaco took the lead three minutes after the restart through through a Djibril Sidibe close-range effort.

Dele Alli then won a penalty three minutes later which Hary Kane converted, but Spurs were behind 38 seconds after the spot kick as Thomas Lemar struck a low effort past Lloris from the left of the box.

Llloris was forced into a number of fine saves as Monaco looked to make the game safe, but the defeat leaves Spurs on four points from five games and out of the competition with second-placed Leverkusen three points ahead and with a superior head-to-head record.
