Tottenham defender Matt Doherty has tested positive for coronavirus while on international duty, the Republic of Ireland have confirmed.
The right-back - along with Ireland team-mate James McClean, who has also tested positive - played 90 minutes in Sunday night's 1-0 defeat by Wales, facing Spurs team-mates Gareth Bale and Ben Davies at the Cardiff City Stadium.
Last week, Ireland and Preston North End midfielder Alan Browne tested positive for Covid-19 the morning after playing 90 minutes against England at Wembley, though every member of the Three Lions camp returned a negative test following the friendly.
It is unclear as to whether former Wolves full-back Doherty is showing any symptoms, which could impact the length of his isolation.
Under UK Government guidelines, you must isolate for ten days from when symptoms start or - if asymptomatic - ten days from the day of taking the test.
Either way, Jose Mourinho will be without Doherty, who must return a negative test before rejoining training, for the weekend visit of Manchester City, and could be without him for Tottenham’s Europa League fixture against Ludogorets next Thursday.
In a statement on Twitter, the Irish FA (FAI) said: "The Football Association of Ireland can confirm Matt Doherty and James McClean have tested positive for COVID-19
"The rest of the staff & squad tested negative ahead of the flight back to Dublin this morning before the match against Bulgaria on Wednesday."
Tottenham suffered another Covid scare when Heung-min Son was forced to isolate after six of his South Korea team-mates tested positive over the weekend, though the forward then featured in their game against Mexico in Austria having tested negative.
