Ryan Sessegnon says he turned down interest from a number of leading Premier League clubs to stay with Fulham because he wants to play regular first-team football.

Tottenham, Liverpool and Manchester United wanted Sessegnon but the teenage prodigy has ended speculation about his future by signing a three-year contract at Craven Cottage.

Sessegnon was a regular for Fulham last season despite only turning 17 in May and made 30 appearances for the Championship club, scoring seven goals.

Chelsea and Manchester City also expressed an interest in Sessegnon, a left-sided player who is regarded as one of the brightest prospects in English football.

But Sessegnon has revealed he decided to stay at Fulham because of the chances he is getting under head coach Slavisa Jokanovic.

Sessegnon said: “Last season I got a lot of opportunities so I want to continue that. When you are young you just want to play as many games as you can. To play 30 games last year was good. It is always about improving and this season I want to get better.

“I am just happy for it to be done now. I can kick on and get ready for the season.”

Sessegnon, who is the England Under-19s squad for the European Championship in Georgia this month, says his head was not turned by speculation about his future. “I do not think it affected me,” he said. “I just focus on my job and that is playing for Fulham.”
