Tottenham have had a second offer for West Brom striker Saido Berahino rejected, the Baggies confirmed on Tuesday.

Berahino was left out of Tony Pulis' team that narrowly lost 3-2 at home to champions Chelsea on Sunday before West Brom revealed a day later the 22-year-old had handed in a transfer request amid interest from Spurs.

The club subsequently released a statement on their official website to say the request had been rejected, but the Baggies have now confirmed Tottenham have returned with another offer for the England Under-21 international – which has been turned down.

"West Bromwich Albion can today confirm the Club have rejected a second offer from Tottenham Hotspur for Saido Berahino," a statement on Tuesday read.

"Albion Chairman Jeremy Peace said: 'Our position remains unchanged. The sale of this player is not on our agenda.'"

Pulis admitted after the loss to Chelsea that Berahino had not been in the right frame of mind to be included in his squad despite the player having scored two goals when the club beat the Blues 3-0 at the end of last season.

It is believed Berahino was happy to play against Jose Mourinho's men, but Pulis preferred to keep him out of the spotlight.

When asked why he had omitted the striker from his team, the West Brom manager replied: "Why are we talking about Saido today? We're talking about Saido because of the transfer window. Everybody here today should be talking about the game and this wouldn't be an issue. It can be disruptive and has been.

"He is fine, there's no problems but it's the transfer window which causes the problems. He needs to be protected, there's loads of stuff going on in his mind, no just one club but 15 clubs. No-one should have this problem."
