A Harry Kane brace earned Tottenham a 2-0 win over Dinamo Zagreb in north London to take full control of their Europa League round-of-16 tie.

Kane scored either side of half-time as Spurs put in a professional performance to see off a spirited Dinamo side who showed plenty of adventure, but could not match the quality of Jose Mourinho’s side.

A moment of magic from Erik Lamela broke the deadlock, with the playmaker hitting the post after a thrilling run - but Kane was on hand to tap the rebound into the empty net.

Kane then pounced on a defensive error as Kevin Theophile-Catherine failed to clear a Serge Aurier cross, and the Spurs star clinically finished with 20 minutes remaining.

Mourinho was able to take off the likes of Heung-min Son and Kane with time to spare ahead of Sunday’s north London derby, though the sight of Kane applying ice to his knee will give Spurs fans a nervous wait.

As for Spurs’ Europa hopes, they look odds-on to reach the quarter-finals, and will be confident of going deep in the competition if they keep playing like this.
