Tottenham will only sell Fernando Llorente to Chelsea for significant profit

Tottenham will consider selling Fernando Llorente to Chelsea this week only if they can make a significant profit on the £14million they paid Swansea City five months ago.

The forward has struggled to make an impact at Spurs - scoring only twice in 23 appearances - but continues to be admired by Antonio Conte, who coached him at Juventus.

Spurs would also need back-up of their own were Llorente to depart. Michy Batshuayi, who has asked to leave Chelsea on loan, has been on Tottenham’s radar for at least four years and nearly joined the club in 2016, but wants regular football which he would not get if competing with Harry Kane for a place.

Meanwhile, Spurs are edging closer to completing a move for Brazil attacker Lucas Moura, who is poised to join from Paris Saint-Germain before Wednesday’s deadline.

The final fee is expected to be close to £26.5million, with PSG chasing most of the cash up front and Spurs looking to pay about £22m plus bonuses. The clubs have a working relationship after Serge Aurier left the Ligue 1 club to move to Tottenham last summer.

Tottenham face Manchester United at Wembley on Wednesday and continued to assess the fitness of defender Toby Alderweireld in Tuesday’s final training session. Alderweireld joined in a recovery session on Monday but the defender has not played since damaging his hamstring in the 3-1 win over Real Madrid at Wembley on November 1.

Danny Rose is another who took part in the recovery session, having not featured for the first team since Boxing Day due to more knee trouble. Ben Davies is likely to start at left-back against United, however, as Rose is eased back slowly.
