If Thibaut Courtois wants to offer a 'challenge' to Harry Kane then the prolific young striker is capable of embarrassing the Chelsea goalkeeper in the Capital One Cup final, according to Ledley King.

The former Tottenham captain said that Courtois, who has said he has analysed Kane’s style of play to perfection, could be in for a shock at Wembley on Sunday.

He said: "I think, if I was Harry, I’d like that because it’s a challenge. As a player, as a professional you take on the challenge so it’s obviously due to confidence that a keeper like Courtois can come out and say that and it shows he has a lot of confidence in his ability. Knowing Harry I’m sure he’ll be looking to prove him wrong. It’s a nice situation and I think it’s a good battle to be looking forward to.”

Since Kane’s star introduction to the Premier League this season he has scored 24 goals. Despite his obvious potential as a young player there was speculation that when he went out on loan to Leicester City just over two years, Kane would never get a chance in England’s top flight.

King doesn’t agree with that and added Spurs were simply waiting for the right moment before playing the striker at the correct time. He also praised Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino for his patience.

“Yes he was a later developer than the likes of Wayne Rooney who was ready to play first team Premier League football at 16 and 17,” he said.

“But his [Kane] name was touted around as the next great young player to come through the system and it was just a matter of time before he got his big break. The energy he has brought to the team is incredible and it makes him hard to contain. Whether he is scoring goals or working hard he will give Chelsea’s defence a tough time just as he did in the 5-3 win where he was unbelievable.”
