Tottenham's Kieran Trippier could return for the club's first Premier League game at Wembley against Chelsea on Sunday.

The right-back injured his ankle in the pre-season victory over Juventus and missed Tottenham's win at Newcastle.

But Spurs have confirmed the defender is "progressing well" and will be assessed on Saturday when it will be determined whether he can feature.

Mauricio Pochettino said: "We need to assess him first of all. We have tomorrow another training session and we’ll see if he will be ready for the match day. We need to assess. We are very positive. His evolution is very good. We are very happy.

"He is doing very well in the last few days. Maybe tomorrow we will decide and maybe we can assess him and he may have the chance to play on Sunday."

A post to the club's Twitter feed said: "Georges-Kévin NKoudou (foot), Erik Lamela (hip) and Danny Rose (knee) out. Kieran Trippier (ankle) progressing well and will be assessed tomorrow."
