Walter Mazzarri is confident he will still be in charge of Watford next season.

The Italian has faced questions about his future at Vicarage Road despite Watford being on the brink of guaranteeing their survival in the Premier League.

“I think it even more than before,” said Mazzarri.

“If I look at my team, how we play, my contract, I am sure that after watching how we did last year, we can have a great Premier League season next season.”

On Thursday, Standard Sport revealed that the Watford manager is planning to do an intensive course this summer to improve his limited English.

Watford are eight points above the relegation zone with four games remaining. They go to Leicester tomorrow and will be safe if they at least match Swansea’s result against Everton.

Watford have lost their past two games, although their 1‑0 defeat to Liverpool on Monday was an improvement on the 2-0 loss at Hull.

Mazzarri said: “I made them work very hard after that defeat to Hull. I am happy that I got the right answer.”
