Working up a sweat: Olivier Giroud in the gym

In spite of what their performance on Sunday might have suggested Arsenal players have been through a brutal pre-season training regime, and you can see it in a video below.

Players returned to London Colney on 7 July to build their fitness ahead of the new Premier League campaign, and they certainly weren’t taking it lightly.

The campaign, filmed over four weeks of training, gives a sneak peak into the work that goes into being an Arsenal player. Another video shows Usain Bolt taking to the gym in the summer, likely weeks before his spectacular return to action at the London Anniversary Games. The viral was filmed as part of PUMA's second major Forever Faster marketing campaign.

Santi Cazorla was pushing hard with the medicine ball whilst Spanish colleague Nacho Monreal took to the ropes for an exercise that is exhausting to watch, let alone do.

Their workout wasn’t confined to the gym, with the two players working on their ball control over a massage.

Elsewhere Olivier Giroud of course found time to pose for the cameras as he had a post-workout massage and Hector Bellerin showed a remarkable ability to jump on to a platform, a skill that will doubtless come in handy when he returns to action.

Unfortunately that fitness was not in evidence in their season opener against West Ham, when Arsene Wenger’s side looked lethargic as they were outclassed by their guests in a 2-0 defeat.

Perhaps the Gunners could learn from Bolt, whose recent training paid off in back-to-back 9.87 second runs in the Olympic Stadium last month. Scroll down to see Bolt in action.
