Barcelona prepared for their Champions League last-16 second leg against Arsenal in emphatic style as the Primera Division table-toppers thrashed Getafe 6-0 despite a Lionel Messi penalty miss.

Arsenal head to the Camp Nou on Wednesday looking to overturn a 2-0 first-leg defeat, but Luis Enrique's La Liga leaders were in ominous form on home soil on Saturday.

Luis Enrique left one of his three influential forwards Luis Suarez on the bench for the visit of Getafe, but Barca got off the mark quickly at the Camp Nou.

Getafe's Juan Rodriguez put the ball into his own net from a Messi cross after just eight minutes, though the Ballon d'Or winner saw a spot-kick saved by Vicente Guaita three minutes later after Neymar had been brought down in the box.

Getafe's resistance did not last for long as Messi teed up Munir El Haddadi to score Barca's second after 19 minutes, and Neymar added the third after 32 minutes.

Messi made amends for the early penalty miss with a wonderful effort to put Barca 4-0 up five minutes from the interval, and then turned provider again six minutes after the restart as Neymar nabbed his second and the hosts' fifth.

Turkey captain Arda Turan added the sixth with an acrobatic volley after 57 minutes, while only further saves from Guaita prevented Neymar from completing his hat-trick and adding more for Barca.
