Mauricio Pochettino has been making the most of the international break by showing that he hasn’t lost any of his on-pitch technique after staring in the F2Freestylers’ latest video.
Filmed at Tottenham’s training centre on Hotspur Way, the Argentine took part in multiple challenges including penalty taking, ball control, long-range passing and free kick taking.
Most notably, the 44-year-old successfully tucked away a no-look penalty. Erik Lamela, take note.
Pochettino enjoyed a 17-year playing career that took him from Newell’s Old Boy’s to Espanyol, Paris Saint-Germain and Bordeaux as well as winning 20 caps for his country.
A key figure in Pochettino’s career - both as a player and a coach - is the infamous Marcelo Bielsa.
While reflecting on his career to the Spanish press last month, Pochettino recounted the bizarre circumstances in which he was first signed by the legendary Argentine coach.
Arriving at their family home around 2am, Bielsa found a sleeping Pochettino, then aged 13, and asked the parents if he could see the child’s legs, before declaring that he looked like a footballer and signed him on the spot.
“Yes, that was the reality,” Pochettino told Sport Magazine. “I woke up in the morning and my mum explained the story. I said: ‘Yeah come on, it was in your dream. What did you drink before you went to sleep?’

“Sometimes you need to take risks,” the 44-year-old added. “In that moment, they trusted in a person who lived in the area. They believed, and they took a risk, and they travelled to my town. And they were very brave, because at 2 o’clock in the morning to knock on the door of a house in the middle of nowhere, you risk yourself – some dog could come and bite you – they were very brave and it’s a special story.”
