Watford are nervously waiting to learn the full extent of Danny Welbeck’s hamstring injury amid fears it could be serious.

The striker looks set for a spell on the sidelines after limping off just four minutes into Saturday’s draw at Tottenham.

Watford have already done a first report on the injury and, while they are unable to confirm how long he will be out for, the initial diagnosis does not look good.

The club are waiting on another report from a specialist, which they should receive in the coming days, and when they get that they will decide Welbeck’s likely return date and the best course of rehab.

Welbeck missed the second half of last season due to an ankle injury, but he has fought back to fitness since moving to Vicarage Road from Arsenal this summer.

The 28-year-old had started Watford’s last three Premier League games, however he now looks set for a spell out.

While Watford are braced for bad news with Welbeck, captain Troy Deeney is continuing to step up his recovery after knee surgery in August.

The striker was running outdoors with the club’s sports scientist, Lee Stafford, for the first time this week since the operation, having previously been working on an anti-gravity treadmill.

Deeney is still a way off a return, though, but both Etienne Capoue (back) and Sebastian Prodl (hamstring) are fighting to feature against Bournemouth this weekend.

Capoue has not featured since last month, while Prodl has been out since October 5.
