Wayne Rooney to find out fate

11 April 2012

Wayne Rooney will learn today if he has succeeded in halving his ban for swearing at a TV camera - but the Football Association will not make their decision public until tomorrow.

The Manchester United striker was hit with a two-game ban that would keep him out of Saturday's League clash with Fulham and the FA Cup semi-final with Manchester City at Wembley on April 16.

The FA will inform United of their decision before tonight's Champions League clash with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge but agreed not to release the details until tomorrow morning, by which time Rooney will be back in Manchester.

Rooney was banned for the outburst which came after he completed his hat-trick against West Ham on Saturday.

If the striker's appeal fails, he risks a further sanction. That would come as a another blow after it was confirmed today Rooney did not have his sponsorship contract with Coca-Cola renewed last year.
