Club captain Mikel Arteta has urged his Arsenal teammates to help Jack Wilshere overcome his latest injury setback.

The England international's career has been plagued with injury and he is expected to be sidelined for another three months as he requires surgery on a hairline fracture of his left leg.

The midfielder broke his fibula in August but was expected to return to the Gunners' first-team fold following the conclusion of the international break earlier this month.

However, the latest diagnosis has revealed that the bone has not healed correctly and a plate needs to be inserted into his leg to ensure that he makes a full recovery.

Wilshere now faces a frustrating period before he can make his comeback and Arteta believes that rest of Arsenal's squad need to make sure that the 23-year-old does not become downbeat.

“We know we cannot waste his talent because he has an amazing career ahead of him," insisted the Spaniard.

"We are responsible for putting that into his head every day and to not allow him to fall down because, at some stage, that is the danger; that he does not believe in himself or his body and he needs to trust himself.

"Jack unfortunately has had a lot of difficult moments, but he has shown a lot of character and enthusiasm. He needs to use it to prove he can get back.”

Wilshere underwent two operations last season and has suffered problematic ankle injuries since he first sustained a fracture during pre-season four years ago, which left him sidelined for 15 months.

Arsene Wenger is adamant that Wilshere's latest complaint is not 'career threatening' but it will do little to dispel accusations that the midfielder's ongoing injury problems could see him struggle to fulfill his vast potential at the Emirates.
