David Moyes believes West Ham are finally getting back to their form of last season after Sunday’s superb comeback against Arsenal.

The Hammers were 2-0 down inside the opening 10 minutes against the Premier League leaders, but Said Benrahma’s penalty and then Jarrod Bowen’s second-half volley saw Moyes’s side earn a deserved share of the points.

They might have stolen all three late on, when Michail Antonio headed against the outside of the post, and following on from last weekend’s counter-attacking win at Fulham, the West Ham are at last beginning to look like a team with some identity and resilience.

Asked why his team have struggled to match last season’s performances until now, Moyes said: “I think we’ve tried to improve.

“I think today, we put Arsenal under pressure, we tried to put them on the back foot. We tried to not make anything easy, looked a little bit quicker all round the pitch. We got up to people faster, so there was a lot of things that we did better than we did before.

“We do, we need to get back to [last year’s form]. We’re pleased, the players are pleased because it was a big result. Of course you want to win, but getting a draw today, especially after being 2-0 down, is an excellent result.”

The result sees West Ham remain 15th, though now with a four-point cushion to the bottom three and with a game in hand over some of their relegation rivals.

“We could have folded but the players kept going,” Moyes added. “We get the penalty kick and that got us back in the game. That gave us a chance and made us feel like we could do it. The midfield boys were incredible with the work they put in to stop Arsenal dominating.

"They got crosses in quite easily and got in at the back post a couple times but I felt if we could turn them and keep the pressure up we would do OK.”
