West Ham are ‘delighted’ with Pedro Obiang’s operation after the midfielder underwent surgery on his medial collateral ligament.

The Spanish midfielder was stretchered off in the FA Cup defeat at Wigan, adding to a long list of injured players in east London.

While the surgery was a success, the club’s head of Medical services, Gary Lewin, has seemingly ruled the 25-year-old out for the remainder of the season, saying he should return in time for pre-season.

Obaing will be a miss for manager David Moyes, given just how thin his squad is ahead of the Premier League run-in, but Lewin insists he’s in the best possible position to begin his rehabilitation.

"Pedro has undergone surgery to repair the medial collateral ligament, and we're delighted with how it went,” Lewin told the club website.

"He went to a specialist in Barcelona for the operation and he is in the best possible hands as the rehab process gets underway.

"Pedro is likely to be out for a little while, but we are confident that he will return fit and strong in ample time for pre-season."
