Dagenham and Redbridge are in talks with three potential new investors about injecting money to save the cash-strapped club.

The National League side fear they could go out of business after major benefactor Glyn Hopkin resigned as a director and stopped funding them.

Dagenham need around £250,000 to pay their running costs until the end of the season and West Ham have agreed to play them in a friendly on March 21 to raise finances.

It is hoped the match could raise as much as £50,000 and, crucially, it will buy the Daggers another month while they talk to potential investors.

Dagenham are in discussions with interested parties and they have appealed for other financers to come forward.

The club are not in debt and do not owe any creditors, but they fear for their future after local businessman Hopkin walked away following a fall-out with a section of fans.

A consortium led by Hopkin purchased a controlling stake in the club after they were relegated from the Football League in 2016 and his exit has left them in financial trouble.

They need a cash injection to pay players and staff until the end of June and four players have been sold which raised around £70,000 and reduced the wage bill.

Dagenham are optimistic they will not go bust but the worst-case scenario would see them go out of business if they cannot pay the tax bill.

West Ham manager David Moyes has pledged to name a strong team for the friendly at the Chigwell Construction Stadium during the next international break.

The Hammers do not have a Premier League game for three weeks in March between home game games against Burnley and Southampton, and the fixture will help the team tick over.

All proceeds from the friendly will go to the Daggers and give them some breathing space in their bid to stay afloat.
