West Ham manager Sam Allardyce: Referee Anthony Taylor guessed for Liverpool penalty

West Ham boss Sam Allardyce admitted Carroll did foul Simon Mignolet in his side's equaliser, but said the second Liverpool penalty was also the wrong call after his side's 2-1 defeat on Sunday.

Carroll appeared to raise an arm to the face of visiting goalkeeper Mignolet as they jostled for a high ball. The Liverpool stopper lost his grasp on the ball and - as a result - Guy Demel poked home the Hammers' equaliser.

But while Allardyce was keen to stress his view that West Ham benefitted from referee Anthony Taylor's error, the club boss was disappointed to see Adrian penalised for tripping Jon Flanagan in the second period.

The decision handed Liverpool their second penalty and ultimately the three points, but Allardyce said the referee was in a poor position and "guessed".

"Flanagan is going down before Adrian plays the ball," he said.

"He thinks Adrian hasn't played the ball and he has. In that position where he is he has got to be 100 per cent certain.

"I feel let down, the lads feel really let down. We took Liverpool right to the wire."
