West Ham plea with former captain to re-sign

Relegation battle: Scott Parker could lead an exodus if West Ham go down
26 July 2013

West Ham are trying to persuade Scott Parker to take a pay cut so that they can re-sign him, writes Simon Johnson.

The midfielder is one of several squad members Tottenham have made available and the Hammers are keen on a deal for a player they sold to Spurs for £5.5million in 2011.

However, Parker is on £70,000 a week, which West Ham are not prepared to pay, especially as they are trying to sign another striker.

They hope Parker will accept a significant drop in salary in order to secure regular first-team football.

The 32-year-old is set to be a fringe member of the squad at White Hart Lane following the £17m purchase of Paulinho from Corinthians.
