West Ham sign teen star

Signing on: Paul McCallum
11 April 2012

West Ham sealed a deal for teenager Paul McCallum yesterday, beating 13 other clubs to the striker's signature.

The Streatham-based 17-year-old has been a revelation for Dulwich Hamlet, scoring six goals in his final three games for the non-League side.

McCallum, who slots straight into Tony Carr's youth set-up, told West Ham TV: "A lot of clubs were interested. At one point I think it was 14 clubs. I have just kept my head down and carried on working hard and here I am now.

"It feels unreal. I feel like I am dreaming. I am expecting to wake up any minute. I am honoured to sign for West Ham and I feel great."

McCallum only started playing football competitively two years ago, citing himself as a "late developer".

He added: "I have been on trial here so I know everyone. I hope I can hit the ground running. The first team would be the dream."
