West Ham want to sign another striker before the transfer window closes.

Andy Carroll will miss at least the first two months of the season with an ankle injury so Javier Hernandez and Jordan Hugill are the only recognised centre-forward options, though Marko Arnautovic can also play there.

They have been linked with Porto's Moussa Marega, who scored 23 goals last season.

Speaking at his unveiling on Tuesday: “For the moment we have seven new players but we have three important players [Andy Carroll, Winston Reid and Manuel Lanzini] injured. So in the last days that we have time to bring in in players we will to build as strong a squad as we can.

“We are working together with the board and will see how much money we have now, but we are working and we are building a strong squad.”

The Hammers have already signed Felipe Anderson for a club record £47m fee, while Andriy Yarmolenko, Jack Wilshere and Ryan Fredericks have been brought in since Pellegrini's appointment in May.
